Boston Primary School Becomes Latest to Ban Tag

Joining at least three other elementary schools across the nation, Willett Elementary School in Attleboro, Massachusetts (south of Boston) has banned tag, touch football and other other "unsupervised chase game" during recess.  School officials cited concerns that children might get hurt and their parents would try to hold the school liable.

Parents seem to be split over whether this is a good idea or not.  Heroic mother and true American Debbie Laferriere said, "I think it’s unfortunate that kids’ lives are micromanaged and there are social skills they’ll never develop on their own.  Playing tag is just part of being a kid."  But Celeste D’Elia, who won’t let anyone into her basement for some reason, is suspected of Communist affiliations, and may possibly be a hunchback, said her son feels safer because of the rule.  "I’ve witnessed enough near collisions," she said, as her cowardly son trembled nearby.

Personally, I’m completely neutral on this one.

According to the AP, there are no districtwide bans on contact sports (yet) anywhere in the country, but a number of schools have imposed local bans, including other schools in the Boston area that banned dodgeball, saying it was "exclusionary and dangerous."
