A 74-year-old woman was denied the right to buy beer at a convenience store in Norwalk, California, the Associated Press has reported.
Granted, this happened after she had driven her car through the front window and into the store, but still. Isn’t this store supposed to be "convenient"? Put in a drive-through and this kind of thing won’t happen.
According to the store owner, the woman crashed her 1988 Cadillac through the front window of Joe’s Food Mart and Video on Sunday night. The car "plowed about halfway through the store," but luckily no one was injured. Once the car had stopped, the woman calmly got out, took a six-pack of Bud out of the cooler, and took it up to the front counter to pay for it. Instead, simply because of the car incident, the cashier refused to sell her the beer and called police.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department said the woman was arrested for "investigation of misdemeanor driving under the influence." Although the report did not actually say that the woman was intoxicated at the time of the incident, it does seem like that will probably be a relatively short investigation.
