I guess the police station is the logical place to go if you are trying to get some handcuffs off, although now that I say that, I think I would try a locksmith first. But, FYI, the police-station option is not a good one if there are several outstanding warrants for your arrest.
Allahmanamjad Barbel showed up at the station in Barnstable, Massachusetts, on Tuesday with a cuff around one wrist, saying that his sister had put the cuffs on as a joke while at a birthday party. Now, you might think the cops would just do their civic duty and help out a handcuffed citizen without running his name through the computer, but you’d be wrong. (And sadly, they are probably more likely to check if your name is something like “Allahmanamjad.”)
It turned out that, unless they have him confused with another Allahmanamjad Barbel, there were four warrants out for the man’s arrest, including driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident, criminal threats and “making annoying phone calls.” (I know some people who should be informed that that last one is a crime.) A police spokesman said they did remove the cuffs Barbel had come in with, but gave him a new set almost immediately.
They apparently did not bother to check whether the story about the party was true.
