The Kansas City Star reports that a jury reached a verdict on Wednesday in the case brought by a man who claimed the Royals’ mascot, “Sluggerrr,” had negligently thrown a hot dog into his eye in 2009. See “Dog-Flinging Mascot Blamed for Eye Injury,” Lowering the Bar (Feb. 24, 2010); see also this (on the training of the new mascot) and this (on the court’s rejection of the “assumption-of-risk” defense). After deliberating for about an hour, the jury found in favor of the team.
Surprisingly, the winning party was said to be “happy” with the verdict, while the losing party was reportedly “disappointed” with it.
