A 33-year-old Gainesville man with previous felony convictions, who had a warrant out for his arrest, is back in jail after sheriff's deputies said he took four shots at his cousin Tuesday in revenge for not being invited to a birthday party for children.
I'm sure he had no interest in actually going, but it's still nice to be invited.
Deputies learned that [the suspect] had called [the host] around 7 a.m., demanding to know why he had not been invited to the party, which had been held the day before at her home for several 1- and 2-year-olds.
[The host] explained she did not invite him because she knew there was a felony warrant out for his arrest and she didn't want law enforcement coming to her home during the party. To this, she told deputies, [the suspect] responded with profanity-laced threats against her son. He also asked for a plate of food from the party.
Despite then actually receiving "a plate of hot dogs and cake" left over from the party the day before, the suspect fired two shots at the courier (oddly, the woman's son, whom he had just threatened), then followed him to a nearby barbecue restaurant and fired two more shots. "I got one more shot left," he shouted, which I guess is still a threat you take seriously even from somebody who is 0 for 4 at that point. The boy fled, and the suspect was later arrested.
Charmingly, the existing felony charge (to which he has now added attempted murder and weapons charges) was domestic battery, stemming from an incident earlier this month. He is charged with hitting a pregnant woman, and the woman he allegedly hit is his sister. That's probably the real reason he wasn't invited to the party, but they didn't want to make him mad by pointing it out.
